Introducing Autonomy News

Neon green words that say Autonomy News, on a blue background.

First of all, if you're noticing that something is different, it's because I migrated this newsletter from Substack to a new platform, Ghost. I did that because of Substack's continued choice to platform Nazis. I had been meaning to make the switch for a while, and this announcement was perfect timing.

Now for the announcement!

Yesterday, my friend and colleague Susan Rinkunas and I launched Autonomy News, a new worker-owned reproductive justice news outlet. To start, Susan I are the primary contributors to Autonomy News, with assistance from freelance editors. Our hope is that, as we grow, we can commission freelance reporting and analysis and eventually invite other worker-owners to join the venture. Every single story we publish will be rigorously edited and fact checked.

For our launch, we have two stories for you: One from me, about abortion providers who were required to submit lists of their abortion cases to the Texas-based American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and then travel there for an in-person board exam. They say ABOG dismissed their concerns over personal safety and patient privacy.

Susan's story examines the past—and present—of forced sterilization in the United States, and the dangerous eugenic rhetoric coming from the White House. Starting Monday, we'll also be sending out a weekly reproductive justice news roundup.

If this kind of detailed reporting, sharp analysis, and timeliness floats your boat, I hope you'll read more about why we started Autonomy News, and subscribe!

We will never paywall our work, but if you're able, please support us with a paid subscription or a tip. We wholeheartedly believe that news about topics like abortion, birth control, pregnancy, childbirth, adoption, gender-affirming care should always be free. But producing it isn't free. We need your help to make it sustainable.

As for this newsletter, I'll still send it out periodically. No action on your part is required to keep receiving it—I migrated all subscriptions over from Substack. If you previously supported me with a paid subscription on Substack, thank you! Please consider subscribing or sending a tip to Autonomy News instead.
